LOCK 11

23 Hugh King Drive,
Mildura VIC 3500 Directions

Since 1927

Specialty:

Points Of Interest Sights Landmarks

Lock 11 is a fascinating spot for curious children and engineering enthusiasts alike. They have played a crucial role in river transport. The Weir aims to raise the water level and increase pressure for the Mildura and Red Cliffs irrigation pumps. Lock 11 consists of 24 steel trestles, each weighing approximately 11 tonnes. The lock is filled when four butterfly valves upstream are opened. Water reaches the lock chamber via two tunnels. Visitors can access the island between the lock and the Weir during the day. The islands provide a sanctuary for many native species.

2025 Update: In Lock 11, walking across a bridge leads to a manmade island where the roaring spillway can be witnessed from afar.
