QUEANBEYAN RAILWAY STATION

Bombala line,
Queanbeyan, NSW 2620 Directions

Since 1887

Heritage Listed Railway Iconic Landmark & Historic Station

Queanbeyan Railway Station is a heritage-listed railway station that was opened on 8 September 1887, when the Bombala line was extended from Bungendore. The station was later added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register. The Queanbeyan Railway Station building was officially opened in September 1887, and the station master's residence and the gatekeeper's residence were likely completed in the same year. The platform was built on the southern (Down) side of the railway line, with a carriage dock at the Sydney end. On the northern (Up) side, there was a crossing loop and a stock loop siding.

Showground Events Great Venue Large Markets & Animal Events

Queanbeyan Showground is the perfect venue for events of all sizes. The Showground hosts the annual Christmas in July Markets, the Queanbeyan Show and Rodeo, and is also a popular location for car shows, major markets, and equestrian and animal events. The property is owned by the Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council and has been listed on the New South Wales State Heritage Register. The town of Queanbeyan developed on land once owned by innkeeper Timothy Beard, who had a cluster of huts along the banks of the Molonglo River. Archaeological evidence and historical records indicate that the Queanbeyan Showground site was a significant gathering and burial site for Aboriginal people.
