Army Museum North Queensland is the prominent places that showcase an extensive collection of the history of the Army in North Queensland. The North Queensland Military Museum was renamed the Army Museum of North Queensland and moved to its current location in 2009. It is a recently refurbished building that presents a diverse range of military memorabilia tracing Australia’s involvement in war and peacekeeping operations. Army Museum North Queensland has three galleries that focus on the history of the Australian Army in North Queensland from the late 1800s until the end of the Boer War. The Museum has an excellent collection, especially of the Australian Army in the North Queensland region, covering pre-and post-Federation up to recent conflicts. Army Museum North Queensland also offers the option of free admission for all of its customers. Additionally, the Army Museum North Queensland features displays on North Queensland army history in historic military barracks.

Maritime Museum of Townsville is the local and cosy maritime museum with an eclectic collection of model ships, memorabilia and artefacts. Their fascinating exhibits include the Women's War II display, which affords an insight into the lives of women living and working in Townsville during the Second World War. Their mission is to conserve Townsville's maritime heritage and present and interpret collections of historical artefacts and information for all patrons, sponsors and visitors to enjoy and appreciate. You can see a group of replicas of ships and boats ranging from the simplest to the most sophisticated models at the Maritime Museum of Townsville. Due to the steadily developing collection, the Museum soon outgrew its space. Maritime Museum of Townsville is an excellent place for a family to check out authentic historical artefacts, exhibitions, shipwrecked items and other historical items. The Museum is a Queensland maritime history storehouse with many outdoor exhibits.
