“Professor Richard G. Bittar obtained a PhD in Functional Brain Mapping and completed post-fellowship training in Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery in Oxford. He has established and managed several Deep Brain Stimulation and Psychosurgery services in Australia. He has published numerous scientific articles and presented his work at national and international conferences. Professor Richard G. Bittar specialises in treating spinal conditions, movement disorders, and other intracranial conditions. He was the first spinal surgeon in Victoria to perform robotic spinal surgery, deep brain stimulation for Tourette's syndrome, MR-guided focused ultrasound for tremors, and stereotactic radiosurgery for brain tumours. He is the only neurosurgeon in Australia who offers MR-guided focused ultrasound for pain management. He employs a range of minimally invasive, robotic, and navigated surgical techniques to ensure that spinal and brain surgeries are performed as safely as possible. In addition to his clinical work, he serves as a Clinical Professor at Deakin University. He is a highly regarded medico-legal examiner with extensive experience assessing workers' compensation, transport accidents, public liability, and medical negligence claims.
