“Morwell Centenary Rose Garden was designated to honour the centenary of Morwell Shire in 1992, as revealed by Cr Martin Hill. The garden offered three locations for consideration, including the chosen site of the Norman Sharpe Reserve. This was a cutting for the Morwell to Mirboo North railway line, which has since been closed. There are now 2 hectares of gardens, creatively landscaped with over 100 beds planted with over 3,500 roses drawn from a professional selection of 400 varieties of recent hybrids and traditional favourites. The garden features several significant structures that enhance and complement the roses. In 2009, this garden received an Award of Garden Excellence from the World Federation of Rose Societies, making it only the second rose garden in Australia to be honored with this prestigious accolade at that time.”
