UniSQ Japanese Garden was opened on 21 April 1989 by the Brisbane Consul-General of Japan, Mr Yoshiharu Araki. The garden is one of Australia's most extensive and traditionally designed Japanese stroll gardens. UniSQ Japanese Garden is located over 3 hectares on the northern side of UniSQ Toowoomba and is jointly owned by Toowoomba Regional Council and UniSQ. The garden is a famous venue for weddings. UniSQ Japanese Garden emphasises using rocks to create three-dimensional pictures in stone. In Ju Raku En, every large rock was carefully positioned by the garden's designer, Professor Kinsaku Nakane of Kyoto, to create the illusion of a naturally occurring, random arrangement. Best of all, admission is free.

2025 Update: UniSQ Japanese Garden provides free wi-fi to students and guests throughout Toowoomba. The garden has 230 species of Australian and Japanese native trees and plants.
