“Perry Sandhills area spans around 160 hectares (400 acres) and has been shaped over the last 40,000 years by wind erosion. The Sandhills are constantly shifting due to the movement of the wind. Perry Sandhills are located on the edge of the floodplain. These ancient dunes also hold significant Aboriginal cultural heritage. Their distinctive landscape has made them a popular backdrop for numerous films and television shows. Skeleton remains of giant megafauna, including kangaroos, lions, emus, and wombats, have been discovered in the area. Replicas of these animals are now displayed at the Pioneer Museum in Wentworth. Aboriginal tribes once used this land for camping and hunting.

2025 Update: Perry Sandhills dunes are located 6 kilometres from the CBD of Wentworth, a formation of 400 acres, shifting dunes continuously.”

OLD WENTWORTH GAOL REVIEWS

Very well preserved and presented. We arrived about 15 min before opening and the gentleman on duty was out the front, he opened up early and let us in. Very nice man, very informative. Takes about 30 min to walk through reading the important information, you could spend an hour reading everything. Well worth the visit.

This is a great place to visit and see part of our history. The guy that used to rum it had been there forever but it has just been taken over. The people running it are still very friendly and knowledgeable. It is a cheap place to visit and we'll worth it. (Even had to grab a coffee from the coffee van out the front!!)

Lovely old goal well maintained. Has lots of artefacts to look at. Staff very friendly. It is a self guided tour and you can take as long as you like. Park and toilets opposite goal . Town musuem is also across the road.

WENTWORTH PIONEER MUSEUM REVIEWS

Stumbled across this place because the Wentworth Jail was closed so it worked out really well. Such an interesting place and the kids really enjoyed looking at all the history. Well worth a visit if you are in the area.

This museum have history of old materials, stuffs which was used by Wentworth people back in days. Reception guy was very informative and very helpful. He told us great historical story about Wentworth.

Alot of history in this little museum, worth a visit if ever in Wentworth.

PERRY SANDHILLS REVIEWS

We loved coming here. We walked around and found a large piece of cardboard. The kids had a great time sliding down. Well worth a visit. Bring something like a boogie board etc or large firm cardboard to slide down.

So stunning. Although it's a small area it's big enough that you feel transported to a different place. We went for sunset on a Friday night (first night of school holidays) and were completely alone.

A must do in this area. Beautiful same stones that go forever and yes buried to their trunks. Amazing.
