Perry Sandhills area spans around 160 hectares (400 acres) and has been shaped over the last 40,000 years by wind erosion. The Sandhills are constantly shifting due to the movement of the wind. Perry Sandhills are located on the edge of the floodplain. These ancient dunes also hold significant Aboriginal cultural heritage. Their distinctive landscape has made them a popular backdrop for numerous films and television shows. Skeleton remains of giant megafauna, including kangaroos, lions, emus, and wombats, have been discovered in the area. Replicas of these animals are now displayed at the Pioneer Museum in Wentworth. Aboriginal tribes once used this land for camping and hunting.

2025 Update: Perry Sandhills dunes are located 6 kilometres from the CBD of Wentworth, a formation of 400 acres, shifting dunes continuously.
