Specialty:

Heritage Walk Tour Stairs Monument and Group Visit

Desert Mounted Corps Memorial is a heritage site, and the statue is a copy of one that originally formed part of a memorial erected in Port Said. Mount Clarence is the location of the annual ANZAC Dawn Service, first led by Padre White on the 25th of April 1930. This service is believed to be the origin of the ANZAC Day services in Australia. The Desert Mounted Corps Memorial features numerous historical displays along the walk, telling its story. Visitors can reach the memorial by taking the stairs and walkways that ascend to the summit. It's a beautiful walk with amazing views, and there is a wheelchair-accessible facility. From the car park at Mount Clarence, you will see the new signs for the Desert Mounted Corps Memorial.

2025 Update: You can enjoy a 360-degree view of the Sound, Middleton Beach, Harbour, and Emu Point.

Specialty:

Beaches Hikes and Trails Museums Parks

Patrick Taylor's Cottage Museum is the oldest surviving dwelling. The Cottage was built in 1832 by John Morley, and it was purchased by Patrick Taylor in August 1834. The eleven-room wattle and daub cottage has an entry room, boxroom, parlour, nursery, bedroom, dining room, family room, sewing room, kitchen, laundry, and side verandah. The wattle and daub construction represents the traditional building methods of early settlers, using a type of clay packed into cavities between mats and poles. Patrick Taylor's Cottage Museum displays over 2,000 historical items, including artefacts from Albany’s history, with a vast display of English porcelain and silverware, some dating back to the 1600s. Children under 5 years and Albany Historical Society members receive free admission.
