Mary Poppins Birthplace Statue was unveiled during Bowral's sesquicentenary in 2013, commemorating a century since P. L. Travers lived in the town. The preferred design for a commemorative statue of Mary Poppins, marking the centenary of the character's 'birth' in Bowral, NSW. P. L. Travers, born in Maryborough, Queensland, in 1899. She left Maryborough at the age of three to live in Allora, another Queensland town, before moving to Bowral in 1907 following her father's death.
