Adelaide Zoo is the second oldest zoo in Australia. It is operating as a non profit organization. Around 300 native and exotic species are kept in the zoo. It also has over 3,000 animals. In the second section of the South-East Asia display, known as Immersion, its most new enclosures provide tourists with the feeling of wandering across the jungle, with Sumatran tigers and orangutans virtually within sight. In 2009 the giant panda section was opened; it has two giant pandas. Adelaide Zoo provides an intimate zoo experience full of aspects of excitement, creativity, fun and surprise. About 5,000 roses, including areas dedicated to Australian-bred roses, single roses, heritage roses and pillar roses, are displayed in the garden. Take a break in the shade to enjoy a coffee by viewing some of the finest plant varieties in Australia. Adelaide Botanic Garden gardens hold one of the earliest propagated specimens of the Wollemi Pine tree. It is worth a visit if you are looking for somewhere quiet to sit with your thoughts.
