Negotiations for the park's establishment commenced in 1965. The sanctuary offers 150 parking spaces, public restroom facilities, and picnic tables. At its heart lie three islands, accessible to the public via four footbridges, enhancing its allure. Two stormwater drains at its northern end replenish the lake and pump water from the Barwon River.
