“Meroogal House was handed down through four generations of women from one local family and has remained largely unchanged since it was built in the 1880s. Meroogal House still overflows with their favourite belongings, and the garden hints at their self-sufficiency and hospitality, with fruit and produce growing there. The house tells a rich story of the 'Roogal' women and the South Coast community in which they lived. Their belongings, including favourite books, ornaments, furniture, photographs, diaries, journals, newspaper clippings, receipts, recipes, appliances, and clothes, are still preserved in the house. Meroogal invites visitors into their lives and, through their personal histories, draws them into a shared, living past. The house is wheelchair accessible and free to enter.”
