Dr Eric Guazzo obtained his medical degree from the University of Queensland and completed his fellowship with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 1991. He also finished his Fellowship in Surgery from the Royal College of Surgeons of England. He is a registered specialist neurosurgeon with the National Medical Board of Australia. He is recognised for his expertise in comprehensive neurosurgical and spinal surgeries for both adults and children in the North Queensland region. Dr Guazzo is the Director of the Department of Neurosurgery for North Queensland. He has a strong interest in continuing education and training within the neurosurgical field, having acted as an Examiner for the Fellowship in Neurosurgery from 2010 to 2018. He was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in the 2013 Queen's Birthday Honours. He was also the recipient of the Neurosurgical Society of Australasia Medal in 2021 for his extraordinary contributions to the society and his work in providing neurosurgical services to North Queensland communities. Dr Laurence Marshman graduated in Medicine (MB ChB) from Glasgow University and completed an MD thesis on subarachnoid haemorrhage. He then qualified as a Neurosurgeon (FRCS (Neurosurgery)) at King's College Hospital in London. Dr Marshman has special interests in diagnosing and treating spinal disorders, including non-operative management through spinal injections and surgical intervention for both simple and complex spinal conditions. He has published more than 90 medical and scientific papers on neurosurgery and spine surgery, with over 20 years of experience in medical research. Dr Marshman specialises in neurosurgery and spinal surgery, focusing primarily on spinal disorders. He has been an Associate Professor of Surgery at James Cook University for five years.
