Known for his attentive approach, he dedicates time to thoroughly explaining health issues to his patients. Additionally, he holds positions as a Member of the Medical Staff Council at Belmont District Hospital (since 2016) and has served as the Director of Training AOA for Newcastle (2010-2013). Currently, he holds the role of Director of Training at Belmont District Hospital.

Dr Jai Kumar is an orthopaedic surgeon in Newcastle, specialising in knee and shoulder disorders. He graduated with Honours from the University of Sydney Medical Program and completed his general orthopaedic training through the Australian Orthopaedic Association. During his final year, he served as the Australian Orthopaedic Registrars Association (AORA) president. After obtaining his fellowship, Dr Jai Kumar embarked on a year and a half of subspecialty training in Europe, focusing on knee and shoulder surgery with a particular emphasis on sports arthroscopy. His lower limb focus includes knee surgery, encompassing knee arthroscopy, ACL and multi-ligament knee reconstruction, patellar (kneecap) stabilisation, cartilage and meniscal repair, and knee replacement. Dr Kumar's goal was to bring a skill set from Europe that incorporates the most advanced techniques and draws on a wide breadth of experience to provide his patients with optimal surgical outcomes.
