“Hervey Bay Botanic Gardens is situated on 6,000-year-old foreshore dunes spanning 26 hectares. The gardens feature plants native to the Wide Bay and Great Sandy regions, set in a mix of natural bushland, formal gardens, rainforests, and wetlands. Walking tracks meander through the gardens, providing an attractive and educational environment. Visitors can enjoy the rich, natural ecology of the Botanic Gardens, which reflects their proximity to World Heritage-listed Fraser Island. Agents of Hervey Bay Botanic Gardens is a place-based app that uses smartphone technology and augmented reality to encourage children to get active, engage, and learn about the world around them.
