3 Best Places To Visit in Launceston TAS

The museum exhibits dinosaur fossils, various Australian biological specimens, the past of Australia's maritime trade and salvage of sunken ships, and the life and craft supplies of Port Arthur Prison at that time. The MIND BLOWN DAN MARSHALL special exhibition upstairs is very interesting. The history of The Launceston Railway Workshops is also important locally. It's fun to have some science-powered interactions outdoors.

Free entry museum in the heart of Launceston. The contents aren’t that extensive, so an hour was enough for us to explore the main exhibit hall, kids interactive science playground and the small space exhibit. There’s a Planetarium inside showing different movies at different times (ticket’s required for this one). Parking is easy.

Great place to know the history of railways in Tasmania, animals, cycles, ship wreck, space and science stuff, and some powerful insights by Dan Marshall.

Great visit. Amazing animals all round. Spent nearly 4 hours just to see the animals and have some photos. Cafe was lovely and the chips were amazing too. Animals all seemed healthy and happy. Staff were great, friendly and knowledgeable. A tad pricey, but with the total experience it was well worth it. Plenty of parking and easy to find. Recommended for everyone local and state visitors.

Attended the ‘Wild Nights’ tour along with some lovely qld tourists. Had the best night visiting the giraffes, and African dogs, before moving on to the nocturnal animals after dark, including all the big and small cats, wombats, devils and ‘foxes on stilts’. So peaceful to have the place to ourselves without screaming kids running about. Personalised learning about all the creatures from the knowledgeable Riley, and got to watch all the animals get feed some yummy snacks or their main daily meals. We also started our night with a perfectly cooked burger, chips and a drink. Great night out! Would be a perfect activity for a work do, or teen birthday party or a non drinkers birthday get together etc.

Best zoo. Animals have nice enclosures. Good viewing areas. Also has a dinosaur walk. Informative keepers that clearly love their work and are enthusiastic. Nice cafe. You could spend a whole day here.

Wow. Wow. Wow. What an incredible place. The diversity, quality, extremes, attention to detail, the stories, rarity, display prowess, thoughtfulness - the list goes on - is simply stunning and applause worthy. If you love bikes, whether it's an array of the once remarkable Honda 4 - 750, an Ariel Square 4 or HRD. Kwaka Z 1502, or many many others, perhaps some early 19th century vehicles and bikes - hang on, I better slow down, otherwise I'll ramble like a lune! Bottom line, I've attended myriad car and bike shows, spent 25 years as one of Australia's most prolific automotive aftermarket journalists and have an undying love for all things good in the automotive world. So I believe I have at least a modicum of credibility in this arena. Bottom line; for a relatively small facility, the National Automobile Museum of Tasmania is one of the best anywhere. Alternatively, I could write a War and Peace novel on this place. Instead, I suggest is you get yourself down there and show some love!

Loved this place! Not enough good auto museums in Australia so it was great to find this one. A wonderful collection of beautifully restored old vintage cars and bikes, some Aussie and Euro classics, a number of racing cars and plenty of motorcycles, all in absolutely immaculate condition. The Porsche display was amazing with some stunning examples of various models from over the years. Also a great gift/souvenir shop for lovers and collectors of all things motoring.

Fantastic collection of iconic and classic cars, both Australian and exotic as well as bikes and race cars. Found the exhibit to be very clean, well layed out and able to be viewed close up. The staff were friendly, knowledgeable and down to earth. Great gift shop at the front of building. An unforgettable experience.
