“Alexandra Fountain was built from the proceeds of the Bendigo Juvenile Industrial Exhibition, a 500-pound gift from George Lansell, the 'Quartz King' of Victoria, and 700 pounds from the Sandhurst City Council. The fountain was fashioned by local architect William Charles Vahland, and it stands 28 feet high and sits in a 50-foot (15 m) diameter circular pool. The fountain was named in honour of Alexandra, Princess of Wales. The Alexandra Fountain is one of the largest and most adorned municipal fountains in Victoria, and it includes lion head spouts, spouted bronze mer-horses, and dolphins.

2025 Update: They acknowledge the traditional owners of the country.”

BENDIGO VISITOR CENTRE REVIEWS

This is one of the must visit places if you are visiting Bendigo, great collection and information about the rich heritage of this area. Just walking distance from the Station. Also have Aboriginal museum/ art gallery inside the building, worth visiting if you are an art lover. Staff is very helpful and will assist you with all your questions patiently.

Occupies two very impressive, grandeur Victorian buildings, former post office and bank, wuth fully preserved exterior and partly left and restored interiors. And a lot of tourist information plus few art exhibitions inside, of course.

Rihannon has been incredibly helpful and supportive this morning, she searched high and low to find our family last minute accommodation during a difficult time. We can't thank her enough.

ONE TREE HILL LOOKOUT TOWER REVIEWS

Fantastic view and tower to climb. 352m above sea level. You get 360deg views over Bendigo. Good fun for children also. A nice scenic drive through the park to the top, then you can climb the tower if you want to. No major walking required. I went there on a very windy day, quite an experience!

I go with a friend for a ride up there every sunday it is great go up spring gully and then next sunday up uni way so good but a climb i like good for heart . Then go back to town for a coffee.

Loved the look out point. Absolutely recommend it. Please please visit someday when there are a number of stars in the sky.

ALEXANDRA FOUNTAIN REVIEWS

Lovely fountain in the heart of the city. Quite a busy intersection area, but there are lots of traffic lights and connecting pathways. There's a small memorial behind the fountain and it's very close to some of the main parks for visiting when passing through.

Alexandra Fountain is the largest decorated fountain in Victoria, complete with spectacular Merhorses and other ornate sculptures. It is a beautiful sight with the water cascading down from its 8 metre height. Definitely worth a visit.

At the centre of town, Bendigo's most famous landmark, opened to the public in 1881, beautiful to photograph!
