MACKAY TOWN HALL

63 Sydney Street,
Mackay QLD 4740 Directions

Since 1912

Specialty:

Town Hall Architectural Buildings Central Entry and Clock Tower Heritage Trails Network Landmarks Square Tower

Mackay Town Hall was designed by Arthur Rigby and built in 1912 by Charles Porter for the Mackay Town Council. It was constructed of locally produced bricks, and the plan featured a central, square tower designed to include a clock. The settlement developed into the commercial hub for the district’s pastoral stations, offering services, supplies, and port facilities. By the mid-1860s, the township of Mackay already had a post office, a telegraph link to Brisbane, several churches, banks, and a racecourse. The street façade is arranged into five bays featuring moulded semicircular arches, separated by pilasters and accented with string courses. At its centre stands a square clock tower with a balustraded parapet, ball finials, and circular windows.
