“Billabong Zoo is an award-winning zoo with over 80 species of mammals, reptiles and birds. They care for over 200 animals in this friendly 10-acre koala and wildlife park. You can get up close and personal with Australian and exotic animals. You can also book one-on-one encounters with some unique animals, including cheetahs, snow leopards, koalas, red pandas, meerkats, and snakes. The café also offers a range of delicious cuisines, from Australian favourites to Mexican and Moroccan, to satisfy all tastes and provide meal options for children. Zoo Annual Passes can be purchased online. “Macquarie Nature Reserve is a family picnic and historic heritage place. The Nature Reserve is close to the heart of Port Macquarie and just a few hundred metres from the beach. Macquarie Nature Reserve offers a peaceful setting surrounded by the region's past. The nature reserve is also an important wildlife corridor, home to a koala hospital. It is also a preservation society that rehabilitates and releases sick and orphaned koalas. Macquarie Nature Reserve is so picturesque here that many choose to have their special celebrations in the lovely gardens. The nature reserve is also an excellent place for weddings near Port Macquarie.

2025 Update: They offer a wheelchair-accessible suite in a heritage building.”

BILLABONG ZOO REVIEWS

We spent 4 hours enjoying the animals and gardens. The keepers were very knowledgeable and were more than happy to answer questions and share further details about the animals within the zoo. The koala nursery was amazing and we spent a long time watching Pebble and Rocky, along with their mums, moving around their trees, chewing on leaves and playing in the branches. I would absolutely recommend Billabong Zoo to others!

Small independent zoo that is well worth a visit. Cafe and gift shop,animal encounters available. Kangaroo/ wallaby walk through area. We had the wonderful opportunity to watch two adorable baby Koalas playing and climbing. They are part of the zoo breeding program. Worth the investment to help keep small zoos like this running.

We came from Newcastle just to visit and we loved it! We arrived at opening and it was the best time to go, most of the animals were awake and active eating their breakfast. The penguins are super friendly. If you are from Newcastle it's very similar to Hunter Valley Zoo but has a better layout and variety of animals.

PORT MACQUARIE MUSEUM REVIEWS

One of my favourite historical museums across Australia. I’ve been travelling a lot and couldn’t believe how much history was in Port Macquarie. Truely a gem! The staff was amazing, very friendly and knowledgeable. He shared a lot of history before we actually seen the museum. Great chap! This is a main pillar of Port Macquarie’s history!

The best local small history museums in NSW, the ladies are very lovely. The place is well presented, they are supporting the senior people around the area. Actually you can access it for free if you have a senior card. For adults $5. Port Macquarie is the third city for settlers around 1821, the house was built around 1831 and 1835. It is located on one of the major roads. It was a very enjoyable place for a family trip in Port Macquarie.

Our family was greeted with friendly and informative staff. This place is perfect for all ages. You could easily spend 1 to 2 hours here. They have I-Spy game, colouring and Lego table for the little ones. Beautiful displays. Conveniently located at the city centre. Great discovery and learning experience on Port Macquarie.

MACQUARIE NATURE RESERVE REVIEWS

Beautiful open grounds for people of all ages to visit. We tried the new Cafe there which was lovely! Perfect venue for garden wedding or reception party or photos. Koala hospital next door. This is a really nice place to visit when in Port.

Notwithstanding the fact that Port Macquarie is a lovely quaint town with marvellous walks, lovely white beaches and great scenery ... the little Macquarie Park and Koala Hospital are well worth a visit. Easily reachable via a relaxing and extremely scenic route along the coastline from the Port Macquarie Greens. Highly highly recommended.

Fantastic hospital, Koala's are the most cute animals ever!! And the people do an amazing job here to care so well for them!!
