This hidden gem is absolutely amazing. The food is spectacular. Highly recommend the Pork Jowl and Wallaby Wings. Usual Japanese noodles, okonomyaki etc also on offer, but do go for these dishes with an Aussie twist, they are truly worth it. Service, atmosphere, food all very impressive. We stopped in as it opened for lunch - as did a swarm of other people suddenly, so were lucky to get our table for two. We’ve travelled to Japan several times & love their food. This place is a 10/10 - I was extremely impressed.

I can’t believe I’ve walked past this place countless times without giving it a shot. Bar Wa Izakaya is nothing short of a culinary revelation. It’s like stumbling upon a secret Japanese garden in the middle of the city. The chicken karage was so good, I considered proposing to it. The atmosphere is electric, with a buzzing energy that's infectious. And let's not forget the toilets – the Japanese instructions in over the speakers were a hilarious touch that added to the authentic experience.

Heard a little about this place while visiting and figured it was a must try. We only had time to do lunch, but heard the evenings are a great time when the place is pumping.

KOSATEN HOBART REVIEWS

Visited this place for the first time for Sunday afternoon lunch. Good food, good desserts.. (don't have a chance to take pictures of all the dishes we ordered - I will surely come back and will take more pictures!). The only thing I don't like from this place is the ambiance.. it is a bit too dark (at least for me), but again, it's just a matter of preference. Other than that, I definitely recommend this place for someone who is craving for Japanese food.

Lovely selection of nigiri, rolls and specials the kosaten grilled lamb cutlets were super juicy and the famous volcano sushi roll had some lovely textures and a light sweet chili kick. The restaurant is cosy, with 8 tables of 4, 3 tables of 2 and an open seating area for 6. Definitely worth booking prior to coming. The mini train that brings you your food is a nice special treat for those who haven’t experienced it before.

The only thing that makes the delicious food here even better is that it's delivered via a high speed train straight to your table. It's expensive but totally worth it.

Brilliant! Menu is extensive and exquisite. The staff are knowledgeable, professional yet very personable. There service was attentive yet subtle. Loved every moment!

Food was great. Quite authentic which I love as Japanese. Staff were very friendly especially the local one. Miso lamb was the highlight.

Had a wonderful experience at Suminato! The food was flavourful and delicious, it also was fresh and served well! The staff were incredibly friendly and had great hospitality skills! The venue was neat and tidy and had great atmosphere! Overall I can highly recommend Suminato for delicious Japanese food and a great venue to socialise and meet with friends! It has to be a 5 out of 5 stars from me! I will be returning for sure.
