Dr Peter Silburn graduated from the University of Queensland in 1988 and completed his training in neurology at Princess Alexandra Hospital. He furthered his training at the Radcliffe Infirmary in Oxford and subsequently served as a clinical lecturer in neurology at the University of Oxford, United Kingdom. Dr Silburn is a member of the National Health and Medical Research Council Expert Advisory Committee on Stem Cells and holds academic affiliations with Griffith University, Queensland University of Technology, and the University of Queensland. His clinical interests include neurodegenerative disorders of the brain, movement disorders, and innovative therapies, including neurosurgery. He has been directly involved in over 1,200 functional neurosurgical cases and continues to contribute to intraoperative targeting and neurophysiology assessments. Dr Silburn is the Clinical and Education Director of the Asia Pacific Centre for Neuromodulation within the Queensland Brain Institute, recognised as a premier neuroscience research institute in Australia. He has published 200 international peer-reviewed papers in neurology and neurosciences, primarily focusing on Parkinson’s disease, molecular neuroscience, and deep brain stimulation. He was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in the 2013 Australia Day Honours for his contribution to neurology.

2025 Update: Dr Peter Silburn was appointed a full Professor in Neurobiology and Foundation Professor of Clinical Neuroscience at the School of Medicine in the University of Queensland. At that time, he published over 130 internationally peer-reviewed papers in the field of neuro-degenerations.
